Who can see your reposts on TikTok

Reposts feel like a private bookmark. They are not: TikTok shows them to other people, under your name. Here is who can see them, and the ways to take them out of view.

Who can see them

TikTok's Help Center describes three places a repost shows up.

• In other people's feeds. A repost is shown to your friends and community in their For You feed, labelled as a repost with your profile photo and nickname.
• On your profile. Every repost is kept under the repost tab. On a public account, your reposted videos, the text you added to them and the replies they got are visible to other people there.
• In replies. Anyone who can see a repost can reply to it. Your comment privacy settings do not apply to those replies, so limiting who can comment on your own videos does not limit this.

Public or private account

This is the one switch TikTok documents that changes who sees your reposts. On a private account, only your followers can see your reposts, on your profile and in their For You feed, and you approve who follows you.

It changes a lot more than reposts. On a private account, people cannot Duet, Stitch, download or make stickers from your posts, or add them to their Stories. Your name, username and profile photo stay visible to anyone either way.

To switch: open Profile, tap the Menu ☰ button, go to Settings and privacy → Privacy, and turn Private account on.

Is there a setting that hides only the repost tab?

Not one TikTok documents. As of 29 September 2026, the Help Center has no setting for the repost tab alone. The per-video audience setting it describes is for your own posts, and it does not say that applies to reposts.

TikTok changes its settings without much notice, so it is worth a look under Settings and privacy → Privacy in your version of the app. If you find a reposts switch there, it is newer than TikTok's own documentation.

Three ways to take them out of view

1. Remove the ones you mind. Each repost can be removed from the share sheet, by pressing and holding the video, or from your profile photo under it. The three routes are in how to delete a repost on TikTok. Removing a repost also deletes all the replies to it.
2. Go private. Everything above stays, but only your followers see it. Worth it if you want privacy for the whole account, heavy-handed if it is only the reposts that bother you.

What we could not establish
