How to hide reposts on TikTok

Repostless TeamUpdated 30 Oct 20263 min read

Plenty of videos promise a hidden "Reposts" switch. TikTok's own Help Center does not describe one. Here is what it does describe, what each option costs you, and which settings people try that do nothing for reposts.

Quick answer

TikTok has no setting that hides only your repost tab (checked against its Help Center on 30 October 2026). To hide reposts from everyone but your followers, make your account private: Profile → Menu → Settings and privacy → Privacy → Private account. To hide them from one person, block that person. To hide them for good, remove them: open the video, tap Share, then Delete repost. Hundreds to clear? Repostless removes them in bulk on your iPhone, and you pick what stays.

Is there a hide reposts setting?

No, not one TikTok documents. Its Help Center page on reposts covers what a repost is, who sees it, how to reply and how to remove one. It names two things that change who sees your reposts: whether your account is public or private, and whether the repost still exists. There is no per-tab or per-repost visibility switch in it.

TikTok changes settings without much notice, so a look under Settings and privacy → Privacy in your version of the app costs nothing. If you find a reposts switch there, it is newer than TikTok's documentation.

Option 1: make your account private

TikTok says that on a private account, only your followers can see your reposted content, on your profile and in their For You feed. You also approve each new follower.

  1. Open Profile.
  2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
  3. Go to Settings and privacy → Privacy.
  4. Turn on Private account.

The cost: it hides everything, not only reposts. On a private account, people cannot Duet, Stitch or download your posts, and your videos stop reaching strangers. Your name, username and profile photo stay visible to anyone.

Option 2: hide reposts from one person

Block them. TikTok says blocking someone means you can't view each other's posts, find each other's profiles in search or exchange messages, and they are not notified. To block: go to the person's profile, tap the Share button at the top, tap Block, then confirm.

On a private account there is a softer option: remove that person as a follower. Since only followers see a private account's reposts, they lose sight of them without being blocked.

Option 3: remove the reposts

The only way to hide a repost from everyone while staying public is to remove it. TikTok lists three routes:

Removing a repost also deletes every reply it got. One at a time is fine for a handful; for a full tab, see how to delete all your TikTok reposts at once, or keep some creators and remove the rest.

Questions people ask

Can you hide reposts on TikTok?

Not with a dedicated setting. As of 30 October 2026, TikTok's Help Center documents no switch that hides the repost tab on its own. You can limit who sees reposts by making your account private, keep one person away by blocking them, or remove the reposts.

How do I hide my reposts from one person?

Block them. TikTok says blocking means you can't view each other's posts or find each other's profiles in search. On a private account you can also remove them as a follower, since only followers see a private account's reposts.

Does making my account private hide my reposts?

From everyone except your followers. TikTok says that on a private account only your followers can see your reposted content, on your profile and in their For You feed.

Can I turn off the repost tab?

No. TikTok does not document a way to remove or switch off the repost tab. It disappears from view only when there is nothing in it, so the only way to empty it is to remove the reposts.

Do comment privacy settings hide repost replies?

No. TikTok says your comment privacy settings don't apply to repost replies. Anyone who can see a repost can reply to it.

If I remove a repost, does anyone get notified?

TikTok documents no notification for removing a repost. Removing it does delete every reply it got.
