How to delete old reposts on TikTok and keep recent ones

Repostless TeamUpdated 13 Oct 20265 min read

Most people with a big repost tab do not want it empty. They want to delete old reposts on TikTok - the 2021 ones - and keep last month's. That is a reasonable ask with an awkward catch: TikTok does not show when you reposted anything.

Quick answer

TikTok shows no repost date, but your repost tab is ordered by when you reposted, newest first. So "old" can mean "further down the tab": keep the newest N and remove the rest. A date filter, in Repostless or anywhere, can only use the date the original video was published, which is not the date you reposted it.

The catch: there is no repost date

Open your repost tab and look for a date. There is none on the grid, and TikTok's Help Center documents none for reposts. What a video does carry is the date its creator published it - which can be years before you reposted it, or the same day.

What you can rely on is order. The repost tab lists videos by when you reposted them, newest at the top. Repost an old video again and it goes back to the top as a new repost. That order is the only honest handle on "when", and it is enough for most clean-ups.

Worth knowing

If a tool offers to remove reposts "older than" a date, ask which date it means. If it does not say, assume it is the video's publish date, and check a few results before you remove anything.

Way 1 - old means further down the tab

This is what most people mean: "keep what I reposted recently, clear the rest".

There is no way, by hand or with any tool, to turn "the last three months" into a number precisely, because the dates are not there. Pick a number generously and look at where it lands.

If what you actually want is for strangers not to see them, you may not need to remove anything: a private account limits who sees your reposts - see who can see your reposts.

Way 2 - old means the video itself is old

Sometimes the aim really is the content: old trends, videos from years ago. Then the video's publish date is the right filter, and an app can use it. Just keep the difference in mind: a 2020 video you reposted last week counts as old here, and a video posted yesterday that you reposted yesterday counts as new. By hand, you would check the date on each video, which is rarely worth it.

How to do either in Repostless

Repostless, on iPhone and iPad, scans your repost tab and lists everything in the tab's own order. Under Filters:

  1. Recent Reposts - Keep newest. Set a number; the newest reposts stay and the rest are marked for removal. This is Way 1.
  2. Publish Date - Keep since a date. Reposts whose original video was published on or after that date stay, and older ones are marked. This is Way 2. A repost the app could not read a date for is kept rather than guessed at.

You can combine them, and with the other filters, then review the marked list and untick anything before you confirm. Filters are part of Pro. Scanning and the full list are free. Your first removals are free too - a one-time allowance per iPhone, shared across your TikTok accounts, that does not reset; the app shows how many you have left. Pro removes the cap.

Keep the recent ones, clear the rest

Repostless lists every repost in your tab's order, lets you keep the newest and shows you exactly what will go before it goes.

Questions people ask about this

Can you see when you reposted a video on TikTok?

Not that TikTok documents. The repost tab shows no date. It is ordered by when you reposted, newest first, so position is the only reliable guide to when.

Can I delete TikTok reposts older than a certain date?

Only by the original video's publish date, which is a different thing from when you reposted it. To clear reposts you made a long time ago, keep the newest ones by count and remove everything below them.

Which reposts are at the bottom of my repost tab?

The ones you reposted longest ago. Reposting a video again puts it back at the top as a new repost.

Does Repostless keep my recent reposts?

If you ask it to. The Keep newest filter keeps the number of most recent reposts you choose and marks the rest; you review the list before anything is removed. Filters are part of Pro.

What happens to reposts with no readable date?

In Repostless's date filter they are kept, not removed. The filter only marks reposts it can positively place before your chosen date.
